10. Dezember 2010: RANDOM w/ Max Cooper

10. Dezember 2010: RANDOM w/ Max Cooper

Max Cooper – Chaotisch Serie (128 kbps AAC)

Und hier seine persönliche Meinung zu seinen Sets:
“Yes, my recent mixes include deep house, modern classical, dubstep, electronica, techno and minimal. I’m all for crossing genres and keeping things interesting.”

Glitch-Hop in your Face!

Hi Friends!

I just got my hands on the new album of The Glitch Mob! They’re an avantgarde Hip-Hop trio from California consisting of edIT, Ooah and Boreta, who all are successful solo-producers as well. I’ve been following their progress in the last two years and they always managed exceed my expectations. Their style is hard to describe: Massive, excessively distorted basslines, cut up vocals, robotic bleeps, clicks, scratches and noises and totally fucked up Breakbeats. This shit is far beyond the MPC-sampled 80′s and 90′s era. If you listen to the tracks I have upped for you don’t expect something you can chill to – this sound is made to destroy! Enjoy!

TV on the Radio – Red Dress (The Glitch Mob Remix) One of last year’s best remixes. Featured in the trailer of Tim Burton‘s movie “9″. Crank up the volume when playing this!

edIT – The Game Is Not Over (feat. J-Dilla, Phat Kat & Dabrye) Solo track by mastermind edIT. One of the first tracks which really got me hooked on their music…

The Glitch Mob – Animus Vox This is track one from the new album called “Drink the Sea”. It will be available at the online store of your choice on the 25th of May. If you like it, buy it and support the artists!

You dig the Glitch-Hop? – I thought so! Here some other things that came in my mind when listening to this:

Busy P – Pedrophilia Everybody knows this one from somewhere. If you don’t then now is the time!

Foreign Beggars – Contact (feat. Noisia) As a matter of course Noisia has done some rough Hip-Hop – here in collab with the British Foreign Beggars. This one would have deserved a post for itself but there just isn’t enough time! It’s just plain perfect…

The Bloody Beetroots – Awesome (feat. The Cool Kids) Self descriptively good! Released on their recent (pretty mediocre) album Romborama.

Yours truly,

Flo

PS: Check out the G.M. online shop for the newest single, which will also be featured on the album.

EXCLUSIVE Interview w/ Claude VonStroke + Unreleased Track

Hi friends!

Today we have something really special for you guys: On our trip to Amsterdam last month we went to the 24 Hour Party @ Studio 80 and after dancing all night (and day) long we managed to get a DKDNZ exclusive interview with Dirtybird label-chef and house-guru Claude VonStroke (aka Barclay Crenshaw) after his excellent 3 hour DJ Set.

Nuff said – here it is:

- Hi Mr. VonStroke we had a blast during your set! It wasn’t hard to see that you had a great time tonight aswell...
Yeah, I usually find my “people” in the crowd and just hang out with them and see if it’s going ok.

- You played a lot of different genres tonight, is that a key element to a great show?
Yeah definitely, but you have to try and keep it in chunks. Don’t switch the genre after every track. Got my ghetto section, my techno, my “freaky” section…  But some of the hip hoppy stuff didn’t work so well this time, the crowd just wanted ravy melodies.

- What else do you think is important to get the crowd going?
I play edits. I mash up drums, ghetto stuff, acappella etc.

- Why did you start producing in the first place?
Well I was already into Drum’n'Bass, when I saw that my friend Justin signed a track and I thought “I can do that”. Then I made that documentary about some well known DJ’s and how they became famous. But I ran out of money and couldn’t afford the soundtrack – so I had to produce my own tracks which, in the end, just sounded like the ones from the DJs.

- Before producing you were already DJing?
I had radio shows in high school and college, but it wasn’t like mixing, more like radio. Then I was a Drum’n'Bass DJ called DJ Tree.

- What are your favorite producers right now?
I don’t have “favorite” producers, I usually just play the tracks I like. (laughs)

- Well, I hope so! Can you still name a few?
Frankie, Sasha Braemer, Justin Martin…

- Justin Martin is signed on your label, Dirtybird. What was your motivation to launch your own label?
I moved from Detroit to San Francisco, all the labels there featured “Deep Vocal House” – well, enough said, I just had to start my own one.

- Ok last question, will you come to Zürich this year?
I went last year, I played at the Hive-Club I think. It was hard to get the Swiss people going i remember (laughs).

While playing a strange and yet unknown version of Claude’s Track “California” (featured on his current Album “Bird Brain”) suddenly the CDJ refused it’s duty and the sound went mute. Of course the people went crazy and started to whistle and shout so Claude started a new track and threw the corrupt disc into the crowd… and guess who catched it!

The mysterious track turned out to be the Julio Bashmore Remix which will be released on May 17th the “Bird Brain Remixes – Final Chapter”. It’s quite similar to the original but with smoother drums and that crazy, minimalistic Bashmore touch. We don’t know if it’s the finished version (“EQ1″ on the CD) but take it as a preview for the final release. Check it out:

Claude VonStroke feat. J Phlip – California (Julio Bashmore Remix)

Here two other tracks we would love to share with you:

Malente & Dex – Habibi (Julio Bashmore Hamilli Remix) – another great remix by J.B.; recently released on Malente & Dex’s “Habibi (Remixes Part 1) EP” on Exploited.

Claude VonStroke – Beat That Bird (feat. Justin Martin) (Riva Starr Re-Chunk) – a more fidgety kinda edit, of the awesome original, by Riva Starr; Released on “Beat That Bird Remixes” on Dirtybird

Enjoy!

The Mystery of the Krupuk Paper Bag

As you can see, we’ve ordered some Chinese food yesterday. Now, we don’t want to talk about our laziness at this point. Because a) we think after such an exhaustive weekend (setting up & Ed Banger on friday, tidying up & Noisia on saturday) it’s just ok to let the pots and pans rest for once and b) there’s something so much more important to talk about with you: The Mystery of the Krupuk Paper Bag

Together with the fried noodles (which were really good, by the way) we got a complimentary bag of Krupuk chips. Nice, was our first thought. Wait a mo!, we thought just an instant later. Printed on the paper bag was an unreasonably huge croissant with a man sitting on it, eating an almost normally sized thing (which we couldn’t definitely identify as a croissant but we think it is one as well). And there was a bird, too.

The question still unanswered at this moment is: What is this print-out doing on a paper bag coming from a Chinese restaurant? I mean, even if there had been croissants inside the bag – what’s the link between a French bakery product and a Chinese paper bag? We don’t know yet, but we promise, we’ll find the answers. And we know that the way to them may lead us to some even darker secrets than wrongly packed Krupuk chips.

Random Story from our VJ’s Funkey Monkey and Schneegestöber (introduction coming soon)…. Here’s my part:

As a start three Dubstep tracks for those quiet and thoughtful moments:

Bonobo – Eyesdown (Floating Points Remix) Some nice stuff coming from this guy who just released his new album “Black Sands” on Warp Records. The Remix improves the original without taking anything away. Just how I like it. Perfect! Don’t miss the video for the original mix at the bottom.

Eskmo – Harmony A real gem. Can’t remember how and when I discovered it. Really like the weird but relaxing vibe. Big new stuff coming from Eskmo on Ninja Tune in collab with Amon Tobin and with a Remix of Spor‘s DNB-Banger “Knock You Down”. Check out the A-Side for a bit more action.

Scuba – Before An especially good track from Scuba’s new Album “Triangulation” on his own label Hotflush Recordings. Very deep and a bit melancholic. Nice warm Vinyl-crackling…

Three Electro-Bangers for the Nu-Rave kids:

Hey Today! – Talk To Me New release by zee Germans Hey Today! on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings. Cut up Boys Noize like sample craziness – nothing new but pretty fun! Massive support by all the big guys…

Boys Noize – Sweet Light (Boris Dlugosch Remix) Most dancefloor-orientated track on Boys Noize Records’ new “Miami Noize 2010″ Compilation. Good feedback by the crowd. Since “Bangkok” everybody should know Boris Dlugosch – made some silly stuff on Peppermint Jam in the Nineties but kinda evolved.

Noisia – Alpha Centauri Seen Noisia @ Rösti last weekend – probably the best DJ’s on three CD decks i’ve ever seen (and it was only one of the guys!). Everybody should see them once just to understand how Drum and Bass reinvented itself in the past years without big attention by the “masses” (…at least outside Great Britain, Russia and eastern Europe). These guys really push the limits by combining Electro, Dubstep, Breaks & Ambient with fat DnB. This one’s a 125 bpm bassline-driven monster with impressive intro and into-your-face drop. Take that, Banger whores! Check out their new Album “Split the Atom” on VISION (it’s “NOISIA” upside down)!

Last weekend we played with Mr. Flash (Ed Banger)  and he dropped an absolutely disgusting but awesome nineties techno track.  Can’t wait for a revival! Big in 2k11.

Here the “X-Tended Alert” mix by 666, released in 1997 on House Nation…:

666 – Alarma! (X-Tended Alert Mix)

Enjoy or die!

Here the Video I was talking about:

Now this one:

See any connection? … … … No, there isn’t any but Pascal had the thoughtful idea to compare the two.

It’s really nice to live in our time.
