TETRIS + RANDOM with BOWSKI

TETRIS + RANDOM with BOWSKI

No one less than BOWSKI is invited on 14 April to play at TETRIS in Basel and the next day on 15 April at FRQNCY’s RANDOM in Zurich.

We are so proud to introduce this shooting star to Switzerland and host his first two gigs outside of the UK. Signed on Blood Musik (Fake Bloods own label), he released a few amazing tracks and remixes for artists from the like of Cassius, Booka Shade and Caribou. But listen for yourself:

Caribou – Sun (Bowski Remix). He first got some attention in the scene with this remix, where he turned a beautifully composed Math-Rock Song into a danceable Club-Track.

Bowski – Leggins. After hearing the above-mentioned track, Fake Blood had an epiphany and directly signed him to his own label, where Bowski released “Leggins/Talkbox”

Cassius – I ♥ U So (Bowski Remix). When Zdar (one part of Cassius) heard “Leggins”, he personally called Bowski to make sure that he would remix his track “I ♥ U So”. And the result is truly amazing! We think that it has the potential to become a summer-track of this year! Released on Ed Banger, the new approach of Bowski will help to keep the Label up to date…

If you’re still not convinced, check out his brand new mix on Official.FM or his other productions on Soundcloud. Already shaking with various body parts? We thought so. Here is all the info you need:

RANDOM #3 w/ EGYPTRIXX (Live)

RANDOM #3 w/ EGYPTRIXX (Live)

We are honored to host our third Random with noone less than Egyptrixx.

He’s a Canadian Superhero signed to L-Vis 1990′s label Night Slugs, THE label that generated the new funky hype in the last months. Night Slugs will host their Label Night in London on Saturday to celebrate the release of Bible Eyes, the new Night Slugs EP by Egyptrixx himself. And only one night earlier we will celebrate Egyptrixx’ Swiss debut with you in the depths of the Superzero Club in Zurich….. How awesome is that???

You can find the Facebook-Event here.

Here are my three favorite Egyptrixx-tracks:

Drive U Crazy, which is also in my Top20:

Everybody Bleeding:

Battle for North America:

Here is a Liveset from last December
And here his XLR8R-Podcast he did a year ago

Now let’s talk about his new EP. It will be released next week, Liberation Front is already available on the Night Slugs Compilation, everything else is new material that will of course be played on Friday!

1 – “Start From The Beginning”
2 – “Bible Eyes”
3 – “Chrysalis Records (feat. Trust)”
4 – “Liberation Front”
5 – “Naples”
6 – “Rooks Theme”
7 – “Recital (A Version)”
8 – “Fuji Club (feat. Trust)”
9 – “Barely”
10 – “Recital (B Version)”

This is the first Track to the new Bible Eyes EP. Just imagine when Egyptrixx will begin his Liveset with this Banger!

For further information, you should read this Blog Post, written by a guy with a PhD in Music that analyzed all releases of Night Slugs, including the first EP of Egyptrixx. (WARNING: You may need more than 1h to read everything)

Anyway, hope to see you all there!

Pascal’s Top 20 of 2010

Pascal's Top 20 of 2010

Lots of stuff happened in 2010.

Electro died. FRQNCY discovered House as their supreme Dance Music Genre. Twostep/Post-Dub/Funkystep rose from the depth of british Underground to the new Electronic Music Hype. And finally, Drum & Bass evolved to a deeper, hypnotizing level, paving the way for Half-Step, a blend of Downtempo and D&B.

The 20 Tracks posted here should give a good summary of what i am talking about. It was hard to pick out the twenty best Tracks with so many genres involved. So, I narrowed down the selection to Tracks that were actually played at least once in a club by FRQNCY.

ENJOY

20. Per Hammar – Bang
Posted the Track before. Nice Tech-House Banger

19. Absymal Depth
Hypnotizing Half-Step. Interesting BPM-Change in the middle.

18. Bonobo – Eyesdown (Floating Points Remix)
So beautiful. Already been posted by Flo.

17. DJ Hell – U Can Dance (SMD Remix)
Nice Banger. Check out the old post

16. Rockwell – Bone Structure (feat. Zero Tolerance)
Crazy new Drum & Bass. Rockwell will be playing at our Random Party in May. Can’t wait.

15. Pleasurekraft – Tarantula
Tech House? Probably. People just love it. The bridge creates a very intense club atmosphere.

14. Egyptrixx – Drive U Crazy
Indeed, a crazy Funky Banger. Electro / Funkystep hybrid.

13. Hanne & Lore – Der Gitarrenwemser
This track is pretty simple. But the Kicks are amazing.

12. James Blake – Sparing the Horses
James Blake was hyped by all Major Critics in 2010. He will release his Album in the next days. I discovered him with “Sparing the Horses” trough a Mix of Jamie XX. I played this Track once, people immediately stopped dancing. Still, I love it

11. Homework – Fissa Tune
“Hey dude, people are leaving, let’s play something good” – Nuff said

10. Noisia & Spor – Falling Through
My favorite DnB Track of 2010. Love the Synths, the perfect Beat, the Break. BTW: Spor is coming to Nordstern for the new party serie “Bonkers“.

9. Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)
Amazing Remix, really deep, crowd loves it too, perfect to start the ending of a Party.

8. L-Vis 1990 – Forever You
Maybe the first mainstream track of this “post Dub / UK Funky Music”. Electro DJs actually play it and the crowd actually likes it. Me too.

7. Pantha Du Prince – Lay in a Shimmer
Produced in the rural Alps of Switzerland, this Track is so beautiful but still clubby. Intro for our Spring Mix!

6. Round Table Knights – Calypso
Major breakthrough of our swiss heroes. Played this track up & down in the first half of 2010.

5. Noisia – Alpha Centauri
Electro would really be dead if it wasn’t for the production skills of Noisia. Check out Flo’s Post.

4. Scuba – Before (After)
Scuba released Triangulations in the Beginning of 2010, one of that year’s best album. Later, he released a Remix EP, with Before (After) being even better than the original “Before”, which Flo posted here. Downtempo/Halfstep

3. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – Garden
Not only having the best Artist-Name, he also released two EPs, each with 4 Tracks, spanning from Electro, 2Step, Techno, Funky… This Guy can do anything. And it works very well in clubs.

2. Hot Chip – I Feel Better (Max Cooper Remix)
Max Cooper is my favorite discovery of 2010. He has a lot of releases, all equally good, so I decided to post a Remix. In my opinion, it is the best reinterpretation of a Pop track!

1. Four Tet – Love Cry (Joy Orbison Remix)
Technically released in 2009, but I only discovered it in 2010. I fell in love with Twostep by hearing this track. No 2k10 production can match this track. That’s why it is the number one in my 2010 List.

Of course it’s stupid to grade Music. It’s totally objective and the numbers don’t matter at all, music is enjoyed differently in every situation.
But this (electronic) selection is still pretty awesome… Download all in 128 AAC here:

I also checked my most played mixes in iTunes:
1. FRQNCY – 175 BPM
My Mix of the new Drum & Bass / Halfstep
2. Max Cooper – Live’s Garden
Studio Mix from Max Cooper. All Tracks are his own Productions, so he could blend them together perfectly
3. Jamie XX – Mix for Collette
If you wanna know more about this “Post-Dub / Funky / 2Step Scene” you should listen to this mix.

Other Artists that deserve to be mentioned for their 2010 effort: Parov Stelar, Mosca, Roska, Justin Martin, Hot City, Ramadanman, Phaeleh, Minilogue, Icicle, Hybris, Dixie Yure, Siriusmo, Subskrt, Sebastien Léger, Bok Bok, Bowski… Maybe in 2011!

Carte Blanche

We (FRQNCY and Monkey Business) played with Carte Blanche last Wednesday in Zurich. Carte Blanche is a House-Duo consisting of French DJ Mehdi and British Riton. Check out their mix on Fairtilizer or download it directly here.

We had a great time playing with them and were all very impressed: They mixed with four Decks and Riton even created beats with a Roland Synthesizer live on stage!

Anyway, here are three amazing tracks they played and also are featured in the mix mentioned above:

Hot City – Hot City Bass
Funny old school house track. Perfect blend of early 90s hardcore rave, garage and fidget-house.

Jan Driver – Tellyfoam
Weird, catchy electro. You can find it on the Miami Noize 2010 Compilation. Buy it here.

PUZIQUe – Don’t Go
D.I.M. & Boys Noize Collab, two electro guys doing house, exactly like Carte Blanche.

Bonus: An Outlines Cover from DJ Mehdi. Had a great time with this one:

DJ Mehdi – Lucky Boy (Outlines Remix)

Enjoy

The Oddwords – Kortelas (VNNR Remix) Out Now!

VNNR is one of the few new good Electro-Banger Producer in 2k10! Thats why we invited him to play in Basel at Ausklang. His new Remix, which already gets massive support from Felix Da Houscat and Boris Dlugosch to name a few, was released today and we got it for YOU (Download link removed upon request – we respect artists and their work. You can still buy the track, though):
The Oddwords – Kortelas (VNNR Remix) on BeatPort

VNNR also released own productions: My absolute favourite is his breakthrough track Sueme. Discoverd by noone else than Mr. Oizo, this track takes rave to a whole new level. When played at the right moment a dancing crowd will go nuts!! Download it Here:
VNNR – Sueme

VNNR’s best selling track is a Remix of Depuis91′s Erotique. You can buy it here. Support by lots of artists, among them Justice….

Be sure to support him by buying his new track on Beatport or better, come see him live on the 5th of June!

Are you Minimal?

Don’t Know about Minimal. Not sure if people like it or just pretend, to seem sophisticated. Don’t know if it’s something for drugaddicts only. Anyway, stumbled upon Boris Brejcha’s Track “Schaltzentrale”. Guess it’s the first minimal track I like. Can’t wait to play it!

52. Noisia – Machine Gun (16Bit Remix)

We chose three tracks that rock in particular, here is why:

Aki Bergen did it again. We love his work, it’s great to ease up the tension in clubs or just for warm up. Be sure to check out his earlier releases!
Per Hammar is a young producer from Sweden. He got our attention when we got the Munich Disco Tech Volume 6 release from Great Stuff Recordings. Bang is surely one of the best tech house tracks to drop right now.
And of course you know Simian Mobile Disco, and the remix of DJ Hell is what we think their best release in 2010. Techno? Banger? A perfect composition!

If you’re not that into house, here is our last livemix, recorded on the same dancefloor three months earliere in january. More bangers, even some DnB and Dubstep:
Hinterhof Liveset – 2:30:11

The Tracklist is visible in the lyric-tag of the mp3. Or you can check it out on our Facebook-Page or on MySpace.

Soooo and now we have to get this blog thing going. Stay tuned for new stuff like an interview of Claude Von Stroke Flo and I did back in Amsterdam, new releases, Kitsuné 9 and our Faily Friday posts where we flame about bad producers….
