Lots of stuff happened in 2010.
Electro died. FRQNCY discovered House as their supreme Dance Music Genre. Twostep/Post-Dub/Funkystep rose from the depth of british Underground to the new Electronic Music Hype. And finally, Drum & Bass evolved to a deeper, hypnotizing level, paving the way for Half-Step, a blend of Downtempo and D&B.
The 20 Tracks posted here should give a good summary of what i am talking about. It was hard to pick out the twenty best Tracks with so many genres involved. So, I narrowed down the selection to Tracks that were actually played at least once in a club by FRQNCY.
ENJOY
20. Per Hammar – Bang
Posted the Track before. Nice Tech-House Banger

19. Absymal Depth
Hypnotizing Half-Step. Interesting BPM-Change in the middle.

18. Bonobo – Eyesdown (Floating Points Remix)
So beautiful. Already been posted by Flo.

17. DJ Hell – U Can Dance (SMD Remix)
Nice Banger. Check out the old post

16. Rockwell – Bone Structure (feat. Zero Tolerance)
Crazy new Drum & Bass. Rockwell will be playing at our Random Party in May. Can’t wait.

15. Pleasurekraft – Tarantula
Tech House? Probably. People just love it. The bridge creates a very intense club atmosphere.

14. Egyptrixx – Drive U Crazy
Indeed, a crazy Funky Banger. Electro / Funkystep hybrid.

13. Hanne & Lore – Der Gitarrenwemser
This track is pretty simple. But the Kicks are amazing.

12. James Blake – Sparing the Horses
James Blake was hyped by all Major Critics in 2010. He will release his Album in the next days. I discovered him with “Sparing the Horses” trough a Mix of Jamie XX. I played this Track once, people immediately stopped dancing. Still, I love it

11. Homework – Fissa Tune
“Hey dude, people are leaving, let’s play something good” – Nuff said

10. Noisia & Spor – Falling Through
My favorite DnB Track of 2010. Love the Synths, the perfect Beat, the Break. BTW: Spor is coming to Nordstern for the new party serie “Bonkers“.

9. Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)
Amazing Remix, really deep, crowd loves it too, perfect to start the ending of a Party.

8. L-Vis 1990 – Forever You
Maybe the first mainstream track of this “post Dub / UK Funky Music”. Electro DJs actually play it and the crowd actually likes it. Me too.

7. Pantha Du Prince – Lay in a Shimmer
Produced in the rural Alps of Switzerland, this Track is so beautiful but still clubby. Intro for our Spring Mix!

6. Round Table Knights – Calypso
Major breakthrough of our swiss heroes. Played this track up & down in the first half of 2010.

5. Noisia – Alpha Centauri
Electro would really be dead if it wasn’t for the production skills of Noisia. Check out Flo’s Post.

4. Scuba – Before (After)
Scuba released Triangulations in the Beginning of 2010, one of that year’s best album. Later, he released a Remix EP, with Before (After) being even better than the original “Before”, which Flo posted here. Downtempo/Halfstep

3. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – Garden
Not only having the best Artist-Name, he also released two EPs, each with 4 Tracks, spanning from Electro, 2Step, Techno, Funky… This Guy can do anything. And it works very well in clubs.

2. Hot Chip – I Feel Better (Max Cooper Remix)
Max Cooper is my favorite discovery of 2010. He has a lot of releases, all equally good, so I decided to post a Remix. In my opinion, it is the best reinterpretation of a Pop track!

1. Four Tet – Love Cry (Joy Orbison Remix)
Technically released in 2009, but I only discovered it in 2010. I fell in love with Twostep by hearing this track. No 2k10 production can match this track. That’s why it is the number one in my 2010 List.

Of course it’s stupid to grade Music. It’s totally objective and the numbers don’t matter at all, music is enjoyed differently in every situation.
But this (electronic) selection is still pretty awesome… Download all in 128 AAC here:
I also checked my most played mixes in iTunes:
1. FRQNCY – 175 BPM
My Mix of the new Drum & Bass / Halfstep
2. Max Cooper – Live’s Garden
Studio Mix from Max Cooper. All Tracks are his own Productions, so he could blend them together perfectly
3. Jamie XX – Mix for Collette
If you wanna know more about this “Post-Dub / Funky / 2Step Scene” you should listen to this mix.
Other Artists that deserve to be mentioned for their 2010 effort: Parov Stelar, Mosca, Roska, Justin Martin, Hot City, Ramadanman, Phaeleh, Minilogue, Icicle, Hybris, Dixie Yure, Siriusmo, Subskrt, Sebastien Léger, Bok Bok, Bowski… Maybe in 2011!
